FAQ

Steeples and Cupolas

What factors should we consider in selecting our steeple or cupola?

Most selections are based on a combination of three factors: budget, style and size.

  • Budget may be stipulated by a construction contract or handled by individual churches through a capital campaign or through a gift by a major donor. In any event, Superior meets the need for economical products of outstanding quality by offering a wide range of steeples and cupolas.
  • Style is an artistic and sometimes personal consideration. However, the steeple or cupola should complement your architecture. Superior offers a multitude of designs, from colonial to contemporary, in nine colors. If your architect or building committee has a special design in mind, a custom steeple may be the answer.
  • Size of the steeple is critical to the visual effect of the building as a whole. The general recommendation is to purchase a steeple that is the same height as your building. The width of the steeple should be approximately 10% of the width of the building. Cupola should be approximately 10% of the width of the building.

What options are available to individualize our steeple or cupola?

White is the standard color for steeples and cupolas; however, we have a selection of other colors available for a small upcharge, or colors can be custom matched using paint samples from your building project.

Copper cladding is available for the spire on a steeple or the roof of a cupola.

Steeples may be ordered with a cross, lightning protection, non-venting or venting louvers, Krinklglas windows, railing systems, and/or applied moldings.

  • Crosses range in height from 26 inches to 5 feet and are available in standard or Celtic designs.
  • Lightning protection systems are U.L. labeled and available on all units. Although fiberglass is not a conductive material, rain water on the exterior of the unit can create a conductive surface.
  • Non-venting louvers are suggested on all steeples and cupolas. However, venting louvers are available if required in your application.
  • Krinklglas windows provide a stained glass effect on many of our steeples or cupolas.
  • Railing systems with corner posts and urns can be added to larger steeples or cupolas.
  • Applied moldings impart added definition to any Superior unit.

Baptistries

What factors should we consider in selecting our baptistry?

Most selections are based on a combination of three factors: budget, available space, and the pastor's preferences.

  • Budget may be stipulated by a construction contract or handled by individual churches through available funds. In either case, Superior meets the need for economical products of outstanding quality by offering a wide range of baptistries and accessories.
  • Available space is one of the most important factors in selecting your baptistry. With new construction, the architect or designer often specifies the size needed. When existing facilities are renovated, the space is often predetermined by physical constraints. In both situations, church representatives also need to consider the orientation of the stairs into the tank.
  • Pastor's preference is a third consideration when selecting a baptistry. Some pastors prefer to officiate from a dry area behind the unit; others wish to perform the ceremony in a more traditional manner by standing with the candidate inside the tank.
